Smoking Ban in City Parks, Roswell

Approximately all states have enforced the smoking ban in parks where are a lot of non-smokers especially children. But recently the Roswell City Council approved a total prohibition on smoking in city parks too.

The council decided to accept the smoke-free legislation after taking different method for to limit smoking in parks, such as requiring all smokers to light up in parking lots or even inside their cars but with the windows rolled up. The city's Recreation Commission wanted a total smoking ban too.

The proposal to limit smoking to designated spots in the city’s 18 parks was urged even in November but the City Council said that it didn't want to drive people out of the parks.
The Recreation Commission, which is constituted of seven residents, was thought to determine the smoking places. But Recreation Director Joe Glover declared that the group struggled with the documents.

“Of course each city park would be different. Someone would have to tell smokers you have to go over here, you have to go over there,” said Glover.
But City Councilwoman Nancy Diamond added: “They just decided that the new legislation would be only a horror.”

At the Recreation Commission's claim, the City Council decided and put the total smoking ban on the agenda earlier this month.
So the definite decision to enforce the total smoking ban was decided on Monday night. Only Mayor Jere Wood had opposed the new ban, but he couldn’t vote because it wasn’t a tie-breaker situation. And the second predict reading of the new bill is programmed for June 7th.

Mr. Glover also added that the new ban possible won’t go into effect for a couple of months while no-smoking signs will be installed. He also reported that the police could adduce park smokers, but they will not arrest anybody till the new bill will not be approved.

Not only Roswell decided to ban smoking in parks, but also the city of Marietta and Clayton and Henry counties have established total smoking bans in parks too.
