UK still faces challenges in improving public health

Each year we see the appearance of new Research Centers that aim at reducing the number of smoking people and also preventing people from starting. One of such centers will be opened in UK.

This new center will work with researchers from other six organizations that also work at reducing the number of people smoking tobacco.

The New antismoking Center is also supported by Government Health organizations. They gave £20 million and £15 million was given by academics of Newcastle, Cardiff, Belfast and Cambridge. The researchers of Anti tobacco Center in UK will spend this money on tobacco control, antismoking meetings and other steps promoting the cease of smoking.

Professor John Britton stated: "At the moment we are just killing people. Smoking is the biggest public health disaster in the history of UK and we still have to deal with it. There is a belief that by having banned smoking in public places we have sold the problem. But the fact is that there are 10 million smokers in the UK, half of which will die from a disease caused by their smoking habit 10 years earlier than they are supposed to."

"Part of the research will be finding ways to help people, who can't stop using nicotine, and to see if can be delivered in less harmful way. The point is to find better ways of helping people quit smoking and better ways of preventing people from starting, "he added.

Professor Ian Diamond, chief executive of Economic and Social Research Council, said: "This new Center is a big improvement in health and life expectancy."

All anti tobacco organizations from Europe believe that this New Center will indeed help UK smokers quit and give them longer and healthier lives.

The researchers of this Center have already developed a comprehensive state-wide plan for dealing with the widespread health problems caused by tobacco use in UK.
